Amber Jo Illsley While Auckland, Wellington and Rotorua are real cities, all characters in this story are imaginary people and bear no resemblance to any person known to the author. Newsome, where much of the scene takes place, is an imaginary town. THE BOOK
A story of the heroine Annabel's lost loves, her shedding of the old skin of memories and an unhappy place of work; new beginnings and their associated problems, courtroom drama, humour, and a bright new love. Annabel Riley is a journalist who is tired of her job in Auckland, and the people she works with - two in particular. After yet one more act of sabotage from one those two colleagues - Frankie, Annabel makes the swift decision to leave, and move to another newspaper some 300 kilometres further south. The decision was the right one; Annabel meets the dashing freelance photographer Ash Cocksfoot, and despite Annabel's own reserve, she falls in love with him, and comes to terms with her own unhappy background. Together, they thwart the cheeky ways of the editor's son and the evil ways Annabel's former colleague Frankie. Along the way, Ash discovers his real mother, and Annabel re-discovers herself. "Give Us This Day" is a significant contribution to literature lovers. The novel will entertain readers with drama, romance, and humour, as well as inform them of some of the workings of the newspaper world.
Amber Jo Illsley was born in the Tasman district, in northern South Island, New Zealand. After leaving school she had a series of temporary jobs before becoming a busy dressmaker/designer, at first working for a local company and then continuing her work on exclusive garments for individual customers. Wrist injuries were the catalyst for a change in career and as she had always loved writing, the career transition from clothing design and manufacture to writing was an easy one. She moved to the West Coast of the South Island where she continued with writing novels and poetry and also took up the position of writing in-depth profiles on local identities for a local newspaper. That work expanded over the years into writing/photographing all types of subjects for up to eleven publications at a time and also included two stints as editor of community newspapers. Writing experience has also included lyric writing for a Swiss band, rural reporting (sometimes via interpreter) in other countries, and writing for television. She has won awards in the International Library of Poetry. The author now lives on the East Coast of the South Island and enjoys the company of her pets.
