Paradise Square Grand Prize Winner at the Frankfurt eBook Awards. With the new millennium has come a new form for the message of the book: the eBook. To recognize the importance and the great potential of this new media for authors, publishers, and the reading public throughout the world, the Frankfurt eBook Award was established. The mission of these annual Awards is to recognize excellence in eBooks, reaching new and larger audiences with the electronically presented book. We nominated 20 of our authors for this prestigious award. The Frankfurt eBook Awards were presented for the first time during the Frankfurt Book Fair. These annual Awards recognized and honored excellence in the writing, the creating and the content of eBooks. They were presented to the winners at an Award Ceremony during this historic International Book Fair, October 20, 2000. It was announced October 2 that E.M. Schorb's Paradise Square was one of the finalist for the awards. He and his wife Paddy and Denlinger's Office Manager / Acquisitions Editor, Marcia Buckingham flew to Frankfurt, Germany for the awards presentations. All were scurrying to have passports expedited. There were 15 finalists, three each in 5 categories. Only two of these categories were elegible for the Grand Prize. "Paradise Square" was one of six titles elegible for the Grand Prize. It was interesting to note, of the finalist, "Paradise Square" was presumably the only entry to be in "eBook" only format at the time, and one of two finalist entries by an independent book publisher. The other independent publisher was French. After winning the grand prize, "Paradise Square" went to press in paperback format in time for the Mystery Writers of America Awards competition. |
